Mail Problems All Over Southeast By John Wiley December 14, 2013
When Sitka's machine was removed, our clerks sorted the mail, local mail was held in Sitka and delivered the next day. All other mail was sent to Juneau. This changed when a new machine was installed in Juneau resulting in all of our mail being sent to Juneau for sorting. Why Juneau was picked when it has the worst record in Southeast for airport access is a good question. If the plane that carries Sitka mail to Juneau cannot land in Juneau it proceeds on to Anchorage and tries to get back to Juneau the next morning, much to late to be processed and returned to Sitka until the 3 rd day. Looking at the dates on some of our Sitka letters reveals that it is taking up to 7 days to get across town. Why is this happening? By sending SE's mail to Juneau and one machine saves clerk hours in the local pos toffices and they will fit the computer profile of what is to be expected. In other words, it is taking more man hours to process the mail locally than the computer allows. The Manager of Postal Operations for Southeast is named Edna and is located in Anchorage. Her chief lackey in Southeast is Susan the postmaster of Juneau. Who decided to put the sorting machine in Juneau? The sorting machine operator in Juneau is a newly hired person who also happens to be Susan's daughter. hmmm I also wonder if the person who made these decisions got a "Paid for Performance" bonus? Thanks for your interest in our mail problems John Wiley
