KRBD News Report on Wodehouse Appointment

Editor Sitnews:

I read with interest the news report filed by KRBD after I had written my previous letter regarding the Wodehouse appointment to the Ketchikan City Council.

I guess it has to fall under the axiom of: If you feel hot air moving look for a politician's mouth. I could not believe the imbecilic replies of the three quoted councilmembers. It is just this type of non-thinking that got them into this situation and many others.

Marty West says that in direct defiance of confirmed official documents explicitly illustrating Wodehouse's activities she would still vote for him! So she believes in supporting child molesters. People who have voted for her should really take note.

Lew Williams is quoted as saying there are no regulations regarding qualifications for a councilmember so they didn't look for any. Common sense to the contrary. One can only hope that since breathing is not required by regulation they will stop.

KJ says he has an Ipad but does not know how to use Google! That is such a patent lie; if he truly doesn't know how to 'google' in this age he is too ignorant or incompetent to serve. He also could have picked up the phone and called the employer listed on Wodehouse's resume (you did require a resume??) or asked during the interview process for a list of employers. Or asked the staff to google for him, etc. etc.

The rest of the city council at least had the sense to have no answer when asked how they could have selected this individual. They wisely remained silent.

If you want the authority you need to take the responsibility and do 'due diligence' in discharging your duties. You asked for the job, no one forced it on you.

Newly appointed city council member Wodehouse defies credibility when he claims he wasn't notified of the findings. What did he think the suspension and termination were for? I would think that would be adequate notification that he was caught.

I am forced to conclude that an initiative is needed to fill any vacancies by selecting the next runner up of the last election.

People who voted for these councilmembers need to reconsider that vote. I am amazed that they would pick and then defend a pervert (an adult who makes sexual advances to a minor as documented is so defined) to sit as a councilmember. "I didn't know" is no more defense than "I didn't know the law". They would have known had they done their homework.

Skip the lies and lame excuses for such incompetence. We don't need another Jack Shay on the Ketchikan city council.

Sincerely,

Douglas J. Thompson
