Clear-cutting of the Tongass

By Dominic Salvato

Why does the Sealaska Corporation mislead the public by inferring its shareholders are solely Alaska's native people? There are hundreds, if not thousands of Sealaska shareholders without one drop of native blood in their bodies. It's not wrong, it's a simple fact.

The next time anyone views a fresh clearcut done by the Sealaska Corporation and blames "the tribal member shareholders" as Sealaska calls its shareholders, this includes the Irish, Spanish, Japanese and every other race in the world.

As much as The Sealaska Corporation wants to be a tribe, it is not.

Thousands of Tlingit-Haida and Tsimshian people oppose any further clear-cutting of the Tongass.

To many native people, The Sealaska Corporation is the name given to a man made Tsunami.
