Kim Hodne |
(SitNews) - All things begin with a conversation, an exchange of ideas. It is this simple principle that was instilled in me at a young age. So, allow me to introduce myself and write about my candidacy for Ketchikan School Board.
I am Kim Hodne, Ketchikan resident since 2005. Married 21 years to my lovely wife, Laurie. Together we blended our families in 1995, creating a family with 7 kids. We have since added one together and adopted to grow to 10 children. There are only 3 girls at home now, Jade is a senior and 17, Sage is 9 years old in fourth grade and Julia is our strong willed/free spirt 6 year old kindergartener.
The approach I will take as a member of the Ketchikan School Board is one of Stewardship, do no harm and leave better than when started. It is not my intention to micro-manage the district, we have very competent educators, staff and administrators doing the hard work daily of educating our children. I prefer to facilitate the education team, giving them the tools they need to succeed and buffer them from the distractions of budget battles and mundane policy discussions. The future is uncertain, we can only plan and forecast to the best of our ability, and must never overreact. A little patience and calm deliberation most often leads to good, sound solutions. I see the future as bright and full of opportunity, although it is going to take tough, focused discipline. I intend to work openly and honestly with the Borough Assembly to achieve our common goal, the highest quality education we can provide for the youth of our community.
In closing, I believe I have a unique skillset of problem solving with sound solutions and building consensus between those with a different point of view. We have to work together to ensure we provide on a full spectrum, quality education to our kids. An education that has them prepared to continue their studies into college or vocational skills to allow them success in the workforce.
I respectfully ask your support October 4th by casting your vote for Kim Hodne, Ketchikan School Board.
Thank You,
Kim L. Hodne
