Ketchikan Borough Election
|
Running for an elected office is a way to continue to serve this community that I love. My family has benefited, and continues to benefit, from our school district. We have some excellent teachers, involved administrators, and staff that are dedicated to the students in our community and I am grateful for the time and effort they put in to help build a strong foundation for the youth who are our future. Education is essential for the future of the youth in our community and serving as a member of the School Board is one way to foster, promote and ensure that the educational opportunities for the youth in Ketchikan are the best we can offer.
I have been deeply concerned watching the negotiations on the Teacher’s Contracts drag on and move to the point where an attorney is hired for arbitration. I believe that we are all members of a community that works hard to support our youth and we should be able to come together to compromise and provide stability for the teachers in our district. It is essential that we listen and understand what our educators concerns are in order to continue to provide the best educational opportunities we can for the students.
I have served on several non profit boards in our community and know how to listen, how to share my opinions, and how to make decisions that will be best in the short and long terms. I believe that those elected to positions have a mandate to listen and represent those who elected them. I also believe that this is a position of service to our community, to our schools, to our families, and ultimately to the youth of Ketchikan who deserve our support and assistance in realizing their potentials. It is essential that we, as voters, elect those who will help protect the great things that we have in our school district, promote development and improvements in areas that need them, and ensure that we have a strong school system for those in the future.
