Katy and Rosemary By Nancy Coggins August 29, 2007
Passionate about theater and the arts and loving to perform, Katy and Rosemary were both involved in the Seussical Junior musical that recently played in Kechikan. Katy directed the smaller children, and Rosemary performed as one of the actors. choose a laundromat change machine as their photo-op backdrop. Rosemary says there's never a dull moment, as her Big Sister Katy always has some activity in mind: Potting plants, riding in go karts, walking on the beach, working on her fort, baking pies and cookies, and having dinner together. On Rosemary's birthday, they rode on the zip lines with Rosemary providing a scary "what-if" monologue for the tourists. Since each of them doesn't have a blood sister, they especially appreciate being matched with a "Sister" through the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Asked how she felt about the match, Rosemary said, "I love it." Since the beginning of the match, Rosemary's mother has noticed a big increase in her daughter's self-esteem and self-confidence. She goes on, "The most precious gift we can give another person is our time and energy, which Katy generously gives to my daughter." Katy mentions the magic Rosemary brings to her life: "I am so blessed to have Rosemary in my life. I respect and honor not only her adamancy to remain true to who she is but also her spirit and uniqueness. She is an amazingly funny, smart and talented young woman and one of my most favorite people in the world. I am incredibly lucky to have her as a friend and as a Little Sister." Sound like fun?
