Big
Brothers Big Sisters Match of the Month: RK Rice and Tanner
By Susan M. Jaqua - When I spoke to RK Rice about his match with
his Little Brother, Tanner, he described a recent outing at Ward
Lake. "It was an idyllic day; there were eagles flying
and squirrels and all sorts of things to watch and both of us
were just grateful for the time." When I asked Tanner about
the day, he had a different perspective. "RK was running
all over the place turning over stumps and looking under mushrooms
for bugs and grubs. He found some; they were so disgusting,
but then he showed me how to feed the fish with them. That was
sort of interesting, but those bugs were just icky." -

two years they've been together, George and Bailey's friendship
has grown and flourished. The pair now meets regularly out in

M. JAQUA - This pair is active, dynamic, creative and close.
Clever Big Sister Jackie planned a wonderful first outing which
both recalled easily, almost a year later, since being matched
July 30th, 2008. "The first day we met, we hung out pretending
to be tourists and asked the kind of questions tourists would
ask. We went to the Lumber Jack show and just got to know each
other," recounted LS Devon. Jackie remembered that day,
"We took cameras and took a bunch of pictures; it was a
blast. Our whole goal was to take as many pictures as we could
of each other." - More...

of the Month: April 2007 by NANCY COGGINS - The storytellers
were warming up!
Recently, this author had a
chance to sit in on one of Big Brother Miguel and Little Brother
William's meetings at school. As Miguel finished telling William
about one of his childhood adventures (or misadventures), William
picked up the story-telling thread with one of his own wild stories.
Their camaraderie is what the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS)
program is all about. They have so much fun just sharing their

Match
of the Month: February 2007 By NANCY COGGINS - Big Brothers
Big Sisters meetings between "Bigs" and "Littles"
require only a little pre-planning and material. After that,
all it takes is doing what comes naturally. For "Big Brother"
David and his "Little Brother" Isaiah, one of their
best activities turned out to be pitching rocks over the water
at Settlers' Cove. Yes, that day, Isaiah learned how to throw.

Match
of the Month: November 2006 by NANCY COGGINS - Often we hear
about a "Big" experiencing the magic of youth through
being matched with a "Little" - a chance to do kid
stuff again, a reminder of the time when he or she was younger.
Sure enough, even though Lindsay is a senior in high school (which
isn't that far away from when she was a kid), her match provides
that chance to "play" again. You may be thinking that
the "Big" may get as much out of such a relationship
as the "Little." And you are absolutely correct. -

fun activities such as beachcombing for treasures: beach glass,
"used" shells, rocks, and dried seaweed; looking at
teaming-with-life tidal pools; planting flower seeds; picnicking
and toasting marshmallows; picking berries; sitting on a rock
or park bench and just "hanging out." You might meet
to hike a trail, take a boat ride, or fly a kite. - More...
