Ketchikan: Schoenbar
& Fawn Mountain Key Issues Discussed During Public Forum
by Sharon Lint - Praying for an end to the last two years of
academic upheaval, last night at 7 p.m., a small group of Ketchikan
area residents gathered at the Ted Ferry Civic Center to discuss
key issues that will come into play once the Schoenbar Middle
School renovation and Fawn Mountain School construction finally
come to an end. The School Board convened this meeting in order
to allow residents to comment on currently considered options,
offer alternative ideas for the Board's deliberation, and to
agree to a consensus as to the best way to redistribute students
into the two new buildings next year. This forum was meant only
to be an energetic discussion and information-gathering assembly
of Ketchikan parents, students, teachers, and concerned residents
who chose to attend. - More...

Ketchikan: Cold
Storage - Cold Shoulder by Joseph Branco - In a 2-4 decision

the support of Governor Murkowski and grants from the federal
and state governments for the monumental project. Despite the
considerable amount of money granted for the research and development
of the project thus far, the Borough ended the efforts in Ketchikan.

National: Texans
whoop it up at a preinaugural ball - A herd of Texans came
to Washington Wednesday night to toast the second term of President
Bush at the Texas State Society's "Black Tie & Boots"
inaugural ball.
More than 12,000 gowned and
booted - and sometimes hooved and feathered - partygoers came
to the marquee inaugural ball. The entourage included not only
Texas' political and sports celebrities, but also the Texas A&M
and University of Texas mascots, along with a circus of alligators,
wild cats, owls and armadillos from the Fort Worth Zoo. - More...
