Measure to Boost Rural Economies; Governor backs new initiative
to create visitor industry jobs in rural communities - To
further his commitment to spreading Alaska's growing tourism
wealth to regions off the beaten path, Governor Murkowski backed
an initiative known as the Alaska Rural Visitor Industry Product

Alaska: Subsistence
Halibut Fishery Mail Survey - The Alaska Department of Fish
& Game (ADF&G), Division of Subsistence, will soon mail
a one-page survey form to everyone who has registered and received
a Subsistence Halibut Registration Certificate (SHARC) from the
National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Survey recipients
will be asked to indicate if they subsistence fished for halibut
in 2004, how many halibut they harvested, and to return the form
to ADF&G. - More...

Ketchikan: Schools
Face Cuts; New report lists six districts in trouble - Many
of Alaska's school districts will have to cut teachers and staff
under Gov. Frank Murkowski's proposed education budget, according
to a new report by the Alaska Legislative Research Service. -

Ketchikan: Listen to this KRBD story... The state cost
estimate for a proposed bridge between Ketchikan and its airport
has shot up by $85 million. As Deanna Garrison reports, the revised
cost estimate was made public just one day after ABC's 20/20
aired a story Friday criticizing the scope and need of the project.
