National: Bush hitting road to sell Social Security plan - President Bush will begin selling his Social Security reform plan in earnest this week, providing details during Wednesday's State of the Union address before heading out on a whirlwind tour to rally public support.

Bush will visit five states on Thursday and Friday - North Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, Arkansas and Florida _ to try to convince voters that the national pension system is in economic peril and that the only way to fix it is to permit individuals to channel a portion of their payroll taxes into private investment accounts.

The proposal has received a cool reception thus far, even from some congressional Republicans, and Democrats aren't waiting for the official unveiling to weigh-in against it. House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi of California said Monday that the problem could be resolved without dismantling Social Security. - More...

photosL. Ron Hubbard's Alaska Adventure; His long winter in Ketchikan - For such a small city in such a remote location, Ketchikan has had its fair share of experience in welcoming the rich and famous. Names that come to mind are Bing Crosby, John Wayne, Cary Grant, as well as Olivia Newton-John, Bill Gates, and Chubby Checker - plus many, many others! Unlike today's notables who arrive by cruise ship for brief visits, earlier celebrity visitors usually came in on their own or someone else's yacht. Most enjoyed Ketchikan's sights, sounds and attractions for at most a few days. But one unexpected visitor found himself stranded for the winter! - Read the rest of this story by June Allen...
