Ketchikan: KGBSD Releases Detailed Summary of Local Schools' AYP Results; District Reports Percentage of Ketchikan Students At Each Statewide Assessment Level & Measures of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) - Harry Martin, Superintendent of the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District, has released a detailed summary which includes all the Ketchikan schools and their performance status on the recently released statewide preliminary list of Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Alaska: Governor Commits to Full Payment for Senior Assistance Program; Applications Exceed Original Estimates - Governor Frank Murkowski reaffirmed on Wednesday his commitment to the Alaska Senior Assistance Program - notwithstanding that the number of applicants is significantly greater than the department's initial projections.

"My administration will honor the commitment we made this spring," Murkowski said. "All eligible recipients will receive the full $120 a month benefit through June of 2004. We made this change in the name of fairness to all seniors, not just previous longevity bonus recipients. To be fair, we will stick by the new program through June 30, 2004. Ketchikan: Three of Ten Ketchikan Schools Listed As Meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) by AK Department of Education - For the first time in the history of our state and nation, the Alaska public now will have the necessary information about the performance of their public schools that can be used to make significant strides in school and student performance.

Alaska Education Commissioner Roger Sampson today released a preliminary list of 283 schools statewide that did not meet all the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, the most sweeping school reform legislation in our nation's history. There are a total of 488 Alaska public schools included in the Alaska Department of Education's Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) calculations. The information released today by the Alaska Department of Education is based on Alaska student performance standards and student assessments in reading, writing and math. - Click here to read more and for results...
