Access Project's Final EIS Released - The long awaited for
Gravina Access Project's Final Environmental Impact Statement
has been completed by the Alaska Department of Transportation
& Public Facilities and approved for release by the Federal
Highway Administration. The purpose of the Final EIS is to disclose
the Gravina Access Project's impacts, respond to comments made
about the Draft EIS, identify a preferred alternative, and propose

Alaska: Disabilities
Assessment Lawsuit Settled; Class Action Settlement In Best Interst
of Students & State, Say Officials - Monday the parties
in the Noon v. State class action lawsuit filed on behalf of
students with disabilities who take the Alaska High School Graduation
qualifying Examination announced they have reached a comprehensive
settlement.
Under the settlement, 1) disabled
students will be offered alternative ways to demonstrate they
have achieved proficiency in math, reading, and writing, as measured
against the same standards that apply to other students; 2) the
exit exam will be a high stakes requirement for graduation for
students with disabilities in the spring of 2005, but in certain
cases it will be phased-in; and 3) the range of accommodations
available to students with disabilities will be broadened. -
