shows little effect from Arctic offshore oil drilling; Research
reveals thriving oceanographic system - When the U.S. Dept.
of Interior contracted with Florida Tech Oceanographer John Trefry
to study the impact of recent offshore oil drilling in the Alaskan
Arctic, the Florida Academy of Sciences gold medallist had some
concerns about what he might discover. Instead of finding significant
impacts, however, Trefry and his team of Florida Tech scientists

ACS Enter Into Settlement Agreement - Commissioner of Administration
Mike Miller announced Wednesday that the State of Alaska and
Alaska Communications Systems (ACS) have reached a business agreement
settling any potential litigation that might have been brought
concerning the State's September 10, 2003, termination of ACS's
$93 million contract (known as the Telecommunications Partnering
Agreement (TPA)) with the State. -

Speaks on Oil & Gas at Calgary Conference - Alaska Governor
Frank Murkowski returned to Juneau Tuesday afternoon following
what was described in a news release as a successful meeting
in Calgary, Alberta, on oil, gas and other energy issues. Murkowski
spoke Monday to the Far North Oil and Gas Forum in Calgary regarding
Alaska's oil and gas prospects, particularly the proposed natural
gas pipeline from the North Slope to the Midwest, and opening

Program Helping More Seniors in Need Than Ever - According
to a news release from the Office of the Governor, more than
1,100 elderly Alaskans previously excluded from the Longevity
Bonus program are among 7,200 seniors who are now receiving monthly
checks of $120 under the new Alaska Senior Assistance Program,
established by Governor Frank Murkowski. -

Alaska: Alaska's
TANF program awarded $6.36 million for success in helping families
succeed - Alaska's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
(TANF) program in the Dept. of Health & Social Services,
Div. of Public Assistance was notified recently that they were
awarded performance achievement bonuses totaling $6.36 million,
according to a news release from the alaska Department of Health
& Social Services. Alaska received $3.18 million for FY 01,
the maximum bonus allowed for ranking first in the nation in
the "job entry" category -- the percent of people placed
in jobs. Alaska also received $3.18 million for FY 02 for successful
performance in job entry, success in the workforce, and Medicaid
