Alaska: 24,000+
Additional Flu Shots Coming Soon to Alaska Providers; Still not
enough for entire population, shots will be restricted to high
risk only - The Alaska Department of Health & Social
Services (DHSS), Division of Public Health announced Tuesday
that they are in the process of distributing an additional 24,000
flu vaccine doses recently received from the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. Most providers have not received this
vaccine yet, but it should be available to Alaskans within the
next two weeks.
State and local health officials
and the CDC have worked together to assure that all available
vaccine is allocated as fairly as possible across the nation.
Jointly, they have developed a formula to determine the fairest
allocation for each state that takes into account the number
of high risk individuals in each state and the number of doses
that have already been shipped to each state. - More...

Listen to this story... Divers searched the
mouth of Bakewell Creek in Misty Fiords National Monument Tuesday
in an effort to locate a missing U.S. Forest Service employee
swept away by the creek's current last week. The U.S. Forest
Service says it is wrapping up its search for 42-year-old Forest
Service Fisheries Biologist Ricardo Sainz of Ketchikan. But as
Deanna Garrison reports, the Sainz family says they are holding
out hope that Sainz will be found alive.

Listen to this story... Higher-than-expected
costs of operating the state's first fast ferry is one of the
reasons the state has backed off of plans to surplus the state
ferries Taku and Malaspina. As Deanna Garrison reports, Deputy
Transportation Commissioner Tom Briggs discussed the state's
decision to hold on to the mainliner ferries during a meeting
of the Marine Transportation Advisory Board in Ketchikan last
week.

Alaska: Attorney
General Should Resign Immediately Says Senator - At a press
conference held Tuesday morning at the Anchorage Legislative
Information Office, Senator Hollis French (D-Anchorage) called
for the immediate resignation of Alaska Attorney General
Gregg Renkes. General Renkes violated state laws regarding "misuse
of official position" (AS 39.52.120), said Senator French, by
promoting a company with which he had close financial ties.
