NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN
HERITAGE MONTH
November 5:
"Bringing the Public
Into Our Way of Life, from Cradle to Grave"
Bill Thomas, Native
Elder and long time Ketchikan resident, will give a panel presentation
and lead discussions about the Native way of life.
November 12:

November 19:
"Archaeological Investigations
at On Your Knees Cave, Prince of Wales Island"
In July 1996 paleontologists working in a cave on the northern
Prince of Wales Island discovered the partial skeleton of a man
who lived at the site over 10,000 years ago. Dr. E. James Dixon,
from the University of Colorado at Boulder has just completed
a fifth season of archaeological investigations at On Your Knees
Cave in 2004. Tonight he will share his understanding of the
person whose remains were found, as well as the results of investigations
of a campsite located outside the cave. He will place his research
in the context of evolving theories of the "Peopling of
the Americas".
